today we picked a name

my wonderful partner, brian, and i brainstormed all afternoon until we both agreed that artrise spoke to us and seemed to capture what i want to do... with my non-profit business, with my life.

naming things is empowering.

artrise. like a sunrise. like a creative beginning. nothing but possibilities.

now that we have a name, i started a blog, ordered business cards, bought a URL and my ideas are well on their way to fermentation. i've never been a planner, just feeling my way through things and making choices every day based on what feels right in a given moment. (this drives brian and others crazy, but it excites me and gives me the constant sense that anything is possible.) i know this name is taking my ideas to a new place in this very moment! i love this!

(Eve Ensler, who wrote "The Vagina Monologues" wrote an essay for the public radio project "This I Believe" about naming things. Hers is an opinion more related to naming things for empowerment over negative experiences... not the same as naming things for inspiration and bringing ideas into a new dimension of reality, but i am really adept at expressing myself tangentially! to read more about what she believes, go to: http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=5285531)
